Hand-dyed rope bowls - I dye or fabric-wrap cotton rope and sew it into bowls, baskets, placemats and other functional goods with unique and appealing finishings; and braided rugs that I make from up-cycled tee-shirt fabric, that I cut into strips, hand-braid and machine-sew.

My work is inspired by the colors and color combinations I can create using common materials (rope, tee-shirts) in unique ways. The sewing/construction process is the same for both resulting in functional yet decorative products.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  After graduating from Penn State University and starting a family, I settled in the State College area and began working with a local art co-op. My passion for color and design began to emerge which started a lifetime career as an artist, first as a quilt maker, then fabric dyer and eventually a painter. I feels lucky to be able to do what I do for a living and find myself most at peace in the woods, garden or studio.

I share my joy of nature through my work. While drawing, I work to capture my emotional memory of an experience, simplifying lines and emphasizing shapes. I find no need to adhere strictly to reality in my color palette, using bold colors and contrasts. I choose a silk canvas because it is translucent and absorbs pigment with a subtle iridescence. My organic textures visible through the silk are an integral part of my work. I create these textures using organic plant material and a deconstructive printing process using thickened dyes and silk screens.

My floor cloths start as heavy canvas, cut to size and hemmed. Acrylic paint is used on the front and back surfaces, completely filling the weave on the front. The design is sketched in and then painted in bright colors with acrylic art paint. The durable, high gloss finish is created by applying multiple layers of polyurethane varnish to all surfaces, producing functional art pieces. Sizes range from 2'x 3' mats to 6' x 9' room size rugs, in round, rectangular, square, and long runner shapes.

Made from my dyed wool, at a distance, the pictures actually look like paintings. Then as people do a double take, they realize these pictures have incredible texture and life! I lay out the dry fluffy wool into my desired design, sometimes I will include other fibers such as silk, bamboo, flax, camel, buffalo... you get the idea, and then get it wet, massage it, turning it into felt. After it is rinsed and dried, I will poke tiny fibers into it to create the desired details. Some of the pieces have added machine stitching to give even greater texture and design. I then stretch them over a frame just like you would with canvas.
Most of my work is based on nature and landscapes. However a fairy has been know to sneak in at times. Coming from an oil painter background, I find such delight in being able to paint, sculpt, and play with fibers all at the same time. I truly have found my passion.

I want kiddos to experience the magic of rainbows, make-believe and sweet dreams. I want to be kind to the earth and use what already exists. I want big people to know childhood doesn’t have to end just because they’ve grown up. My toys, plushies and wee confections are handcrafted from secondhand and eco-friendly materials, then designed with whimsy, vibrant colors and happy details in order to make all of these dreams come true.
I sew with secondhand materials like wool or cashmere sweaters, tweed suit jackets and striped cotton tees, or some green fabrics like organic cotton fleece. My designs are machine and/or hand sewn with hand-embroidered details, while my patterns are hand-drafted in order to capture the charming irregularity of the handmade. My toy designs range from dolls to plushies (sizes range from teeny match-box-sized to 20+ inches) to toys inviting creativity, like felt design books. I design for little people & the little people inside of big people. Come play.

I create bags and totes out of waxed canvas and leather. My aesthetic is classic, simple, with emphasis on durability and functionality. I strive to source my materials from companies and manufacturers based in the US. I love to work with waxed canvas because it is so versatile. I also love how it develops a patina with use - the more wear and tear placed on it, the better it looks. It gets better with age!

I create one of a kind quilted patchwork home goods - decor, kitchen and dining linens. My work is often improvisational, losing myself in the process of creating patchwork and later figuring out what to do with it. I dye many of my fabrics and I pride myself in using every bit, which you can see in some of my smaller patchwork. I believe the practical stuff you need to use everyday should bring you joy, so I make the prettiest oven mitts, bowl cozies, pot holders, coasters, table runners, etc. I also create wall hangings and lap through to king size quilts. I love color, contrast, and cats and feel like that comes through in my work.
